10-11 January 2006

International sessions
All presentations will be given in English.
91 Energy crops for groundwater protection
The leaching of nitrate from perennial energy crops is low and the use of pesticides is also low. This is the basis for using energy crops for groundwater protection. Examples of the use of energy crops in Denmark are presented.
Tuesday 10 January 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

Chairman: Søren A. Mikkelsen,
DIAS

Opening speach Søren A. Mikkelsen, DIAS, Denmark

92 Reduction of nitrate on its way from the root zone to groundwater and surface waters
The amount of nitrogen which is denitrified is fundamental in N-balance calculations. A simple model for quantification of denitrification and new results are presented.

Tuesday 10 January 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm.

Chairman: Bent Tolstrup Christensen,
DIAS

Denitrification in the root zone using a simple empirical model – SimDen.

93 Reduction of greenhouse gases in Danish agriculture
Agriculture is responsible for approximately 20 percent of greenhouse gas emission in Denmark. This session gives an overview of emission and ways to reduce it.

95 Estimates of N-surplus and fulfilment of the Water Frame Directive (WFD)
The ‘hot question’ this year is: How can we fulfil the requirements of the Water Frame Directive? In this and the following session an overview of the problem in our neighb
ouring countries is given, followed by examples of how we eventually can solve the problems.
Wednesday 11 January 8:30 am - 10:00 am.
